This is the 20th case of its kind in the world and the fathers of the twins have turned out to be different. Such cases are called Heteroparental Superfecundation in the language of medical science. Usually the father of twins is the same, but there is one case out of crores in the world, in which the biological fathers of the children born together are different. Something similar has happened with a mother from Brazil.
The mother suspected the child’s father
A 19-year-old girl living in Brazil gave birth to twins. The face of one of these children was not matching with the person whose name he had taken as his father. In such a situation, he got the children’s DNA test done. In the test, it was found that the man is the biological father of only one child, while the test of the other child came negative. When the girl remembered about her relationship with another person, she got the DNA of the other child matched with her, which matched. This type of condition is called heteroparental superfecundation.
Such cases are one in a million.
According to Dr Tulio Jorge Franco, this is the 20th case of heteroparental superfecundation worldwide. According to Portugal’s news outlet G1, such a pregnancy occurs when two eggs of the mother are fertilized by the sperm of two different men. Their genetic material is the same as that of the mother but the placenta is different. Such cases are less common in humans but more common in dogs, cats and cows. If paternity test is done for twins before birth, then it increases the risk of miscarriage. In such a situation, no one wants to get it done soon.
